Berhampur, July 8 (LocalWire): Tibetan settlers in Gajapati district celebrated the 84th birthday of the Dalai Lama with much gaiety here.
Clad in their traditional dresses, hundreds of the settlers, including women and children from all the five camps in the district gathered near the settlement office at Chandragiri to join the three-day celebration that commenced on Saturday.
The occasion was marked by a special prayer meeting wishing long and healthy life to the Dalai Lama, traditional performances including Tibetan folk dance, and quiz.
The special prayer meeting was attended by Mohana MLS Dasarathi Gamanga and other prominent citizens from the area.
Over 3,000 Tibetans live the five camps at Chandragiri, Jiranga, Mahendragarh, Labarsingh, and Tekilli Padara and most of them attended in the meeting, while several Lamas performed special rituals at their monastery at Jiranga wishing long life to the Dalai Lama.
Born on 6 July 1935 at Taktser hamlet in northeastern Tibet, the Dalai Lama was recognised at the age of two as the reincarnation of the 13th Dalai Lama.
