Berhampur, August 22 (LocalWire): Security has been tightened in the communally-sensitive and Maoist-infested Kandhamal district by deploying extra forces ahead of the eleventh death anniversary of senior VHP leader Swami
Laxmananand Saraswati on Friday.
Followers of Saraswati plan to hold meetings and pay tribute to him in various places of the district, including Phulbani, Chakapada and Jalespeta ashram.
The followers of Saraswati will assemble at Jalespeta ashram to pay rich tributes to him, said secretary of VHP, Kandhamal district unit, Manoj Kumar Sahu.
Saraswati along with four of his disciples were gunned down by unknown miscreants on Janmastami evening, eleven years ago at his Jaleshpeta ashram.
Incidentally, Janmasthami and the date of his assassination coincide after eleven years tomorrow.
His assassination had triggered communal and ethnic violence across Kandhamal which had claimed at least 40 lives and rendered thousands of people homeless.
The violence had also spread to some other districts.
Meanwhile, police has beefed up security across the district, particularly at Jalespeta and Chakapada ashrams, said SP (Kandhamal), Prateek Singh.
At least 12 platoons of forces have been deployed in the sensitive areas to maintain law and order, he said.
