Bhubaneswar, August 29 (LocalWire): Odisha’s mobile data traffic grew by a phenomenal 93.8% in 2018, as per the latest wireless data service report released by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), thanks to the affordable data tariff plans.
With major service providers locked in ‘cut-throat’ competition to increase their usage base, it’s the customers who are reaping the benefits with smartphone users relishing data-intensive contents in streaming videos and TikTok Android social media video app.
Data usage in the state is on massive upswing.
The mobile data usage per subscriber per month in the state increased to 7.5 GB, witnessing a growth of 93.8% than the previous year.
The total data consumption in the state in 2018 increased by 138.8% than the previous year and reached 113.4 crore giga bytes (GB), according to the latest TRAI report.
TikTok Android social media video app for creating and sharing short lip-sync, comedy and talent videos revolutionized the data usage in the state since the past one year.
It has become a craze among teenagers leading to the growth of data traffic, said Ardhendu Mohanty, a marketing executive of Airtel Bharati.
‘As per our market study in the current year, the usage had gone by leaps and bounds,’ he said.
‘I love watching YouTube videos both for entertainment and education purpose. Besides TikTok video sharing has also become a hobby for us.
It is not pinching our pockets as data tariff plans have become affordable,’ said a young subscriber, Manaswini Rout, from Unit-9 area of Bhubaneswar.
