Puri, Feb 5 (LocalWire) Preparations for the annual Rath Yatra (Chariot Festival) of Lord Balabhadra, Lord Jagannath and Devi Subhadra have begun with the first phase of timber reaching Puri for construction of three chariots of the deities.
According to reports, about 57 logs from specified species of trees from Nayagarh forest division reached Puri on Monday evening.
Srimandir sources on Tuesday said the logs included four 20-feet logs of Dhaura wood, eleven 20-feet logs of Asan and twenty 12-feet logs of Asan, and twenty-two 12-feet logs of Dhaura wood.
According to tradition, 865 logs are used to construct the three chariots.
Srimandir already has 195 logs in stock and hence, 670 logs will be sourced in different phases, said sources.
Construction of chariots will begin on Akshaya Tritiya, while Rath Yatra is scheduled for July.
