Bhubaneswar, Mar 17 (Local Wire): In the light of threat of spread of Coronavirus in over crowded places, the Odisha government has decided to extend the timings of Aahar Centres in the state till 4pm everyday.
The state government has now issued circular to all the Collectors into this regard to ensure compliance. The instructions have been issued by the Housing and Urban Development Principal Secretary G Mathivathan to all the Collectors, Municipal Corporations and executive officers of municipalities and Notified Areas Councils (NAC).
In the instruction the department said that the Aahar centres will be operational as usual but the timings of the centres will be extended from 10am to 4pm everyday. It claimed that this has been done to slow down the crowd at such places.
The instructions also asked to ensure the minimum distance between individuals lining up in the queue should be atleast 1.5 metres.
The officials and implementing offices are free to use police officials or home guards to regulate queue discipline as suggested by the state government.
It has also asked the district administrations to ensure adequate soaps and hand wash systems to prevent the chances of spread of the disease.
The government suggested that temporary hand wash systems usually roped in during weddings from tent house operators could be used for the same.
In the suggestions given by the government to the district administration it has asked for arrangements where the money could be dropped into boxes rather than going through the conventional way of physical exchange. The Aahar centres have also been asked to encourage people to take the plate outside and eat to ensure social distancing. Cleaning and sanitization of the centres have also been emphasized by the government.
