Jagatsinghpur, April 8 (LocalWire): Traffic was thrown completely out of gear and all major roads and their arteries came to a standstill here today as candidates of all political parties took out huge rallies on their way to filing nomination papers.
All the 14 heavyweight candidates including Damodar Rout of the BJP, BJD candidate Bishnu Das, Congress candidates Chiranjib Biswal, Bapi Sarkhel, Lalatendu Mohapatra, BJP candidate for Lok Sabha Bibhu Prasad Tarai, BJD MLA candidate Sambit Routray and others filed their nominations today.
Traffic on Jagatsinghpur-Machgaon, Jagatsinghpur-Jaipur Road and the Cuttack-Nuagoan national highway was also affected, creating inconvenience to commuters.
Two ambulances were caught in the traffic for 45 minutes while other patients were diverted to Cuttack through Jaipur road.
Since morning, huge rallies were taken out by candidates from Paradip, Jagatsinghpur, Tirtol, Balikuda Erasama Assembly constituencies as all of them visited the Sarala devi temple to seek blessings of the Goddess before filing their nominations.
Political observers informed ‘this is the first time in the history of elections that 14 candidates of different political parties have filed their nominations in a day.’
Local police was in a quandary as it failed to issue an advisory to the locals or even make alternative arrangements for them.
Police struggled to clear the jam and was unable to handle the huge rush of people in the rallies and the commuters that included students, patients, traders and office-goers.
