Bhubaneswar, May 28 (LocalWire): The Traffic police department has identified five accident prone areas on Cuttack-Bhubaneswar highway where speed-breakers and warning signs will be installed.
The development comes following two back-to-back major accidents on the National Highway 16 in the past three days, which prompted Police Commissioner Satyajit Mohanty to direct the traffic department to identify all accident prone areas on the stretch and take corrective measures.
Bhubaneswar Batabhuasuni, Aiginia, Pahal, Acharya Vihar overbridge and the road near Siddharth hotel have been identified as accident prone areas, an official said.
Road barriers will be put up on the highway to reduce speed as well as public awareness programmes will be taken up to encourage people to obey traffic rules, said DCP Traffic, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack.
In 2016-17, 4,900 people had died in road accidents, while in 2018 the number went up to 5,300.
