Bhubaneswar, Feb 15 (LocalWire): A 22-year-old woman from Odisha, who was allegedly trafficked over one-and-a-half months ago, has been rescued from Rajasthan, police said on Friday.
One person, identified as Sukhbir Singh Jath, of Jhunjhunu district in Rajasthan was arrested in this connection.
Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Bhawani Sankar Udgata said some people kidnapped the woman from Bhubaneswar and handed her over to a man and a woman, who forcibly married her off to Jath for Rs 1.5 lakh.
The woman’s father had lodged a complaint at Town police station in Sambalpur in January stating that his daughter was missing, Udgata said, adding that following investigation it was found that she was at Chirawa in Jhunjhunu district.
A police team, along with the woman’s parents, then went to Rajasthan and rescued her on Wednesday, the senior police officer said.
The police were yet to capture the man and woman who had married her off to Jath at Chhota Bulunda in Jhunjhunu district, Udgata said.
A team set up to arrest the two will leave for Rajasthan soon, the SDPO said.
