Bhubaneswar, October 24 (Local Wire ) East Coast Railway (ECoR) has decided to resume train services on cyclone Titli hit Naupada-Gunupur route from Wednesday as repair of tracks on the route connecting Paralakhemundi has already been completed.
Railway tracks of about one km of the single line were washed away between Tekkali and Peddasana stations in Kotabommali-Gunupur section due to cyclone-induced rain that disrupting train services between Gunupur and Naupada for the last over 10 days.
“The repair work has been completed a day ahead of the deadline,” said J.P. Mishra, chief PRO of ECoR.
He said an empty engine and a train ran over the repaired track on Tuesday.
As per the latest decision, Puri-Gunupur and Visakhapatnam-Gunupur passenger trains will run as per the previous schedule from Wednesday and Rourkela-Gunupur Rajyarani Express will run regularly from October 28.
Cyclone Titli-induced flood had caused extensive damage to railway tracks.
Station buildings at Palasa, Paralakhemundi, and Mandasa are yet to be repaired though the mainline has been restored.
Some staff quarters were also damaged in the cyclone.
ECoR had canceled the services of at least 20 pairs of trains and short terminated as many trains besides rescheduling many Express and Passenger trains despite heavy festive rush around Dussehra.
