Kendrapara, August 23 (LocalWire): Pattamundai police have solved the murder of a 55-year-old woman hailing from Aradapalli village, with the help of a trained police canine.
The woman was killed on August 17, and it was discovered by the police that the miscreants had looted nearly five lakh rupees and gold ornaments.
When the sniffer dog was brought to the crime scene, he sniffed the lock of the box from which the valuables were stolen and then led the policemen to the house of the murderer, Anil Kumar Jena of Aradapalli.
“During interrogation, Jena confessed that he along with six accomplices killed Minati Jena on August 17,” said Niti Sekhar, the Superintendent of Police of Kendrapara on Sunday.
All the seven accused have been arrested, identified as Anil Kumar Jena of Aradapalli, Deepak Sethi, Ranjit Nayak, Susanta Patra, Sourva Mandal, Ashok Patra and Prakash Patra of village Managobindapur under Jajpur Road police station.
Anil Kumar Jena was a friend of the deceased’s son, Satyajit. Recently, Satyajit had told him that his mother kept a huge amount of money in the house after selling her land, for which Anil chalked out a plan to loot the money with the help of his brother-in-law and others.
The accused persons stabbed the woman to death when she resisted their attempts to loot the money and ornaments.
The police also recovered the stolen money and gold ornaments, added the police officer.
All the accused persons were booked under sections 302 (murder) and 395 (dacoity) of the Indian Penal Code.
