Bhubaneswar, Nov 16 (LocalWire) India’s first inter-state tiger translocation project has been suspended temporarily after a male tiger was reportedly killed at the core area of Odisha’s Satkosia Tiger Reserve.
The male Royal Bengal tiger is suspected to be MB2, the first tiger to be brought from Madhya Pradesh to Odisha.
National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) confirmed after the tiger was found dead on Wednesday, the authorities decided to temporarily put a halt to the translocation process till the cause of death is known.
Forest officials said the tiger had settled down in his new habitat and that they are suspecting a conspiracy behind his death. However, sources said there was a possibility that tigress Sundari, who was the second big cat to be brought from Kanha Tiger Reserve of Madhya Pradesh, might have attacked MB2.
MB2 joined Satkosia on June 22. He was kept in an enclosure till July 6, before he was released into the wilds having adapted to the new habitat.
