Baripada, September 30 (LocalWire): People of Mayurbhanj district have demanded the setting up of an ICU (Intensive Care Unit) facility at the COVID hospital running in Bankisole in view of the increasing number of COVID positive cases in the district.
Certain people have brought the issue to the notice of the Chief Minister by tweeting him.
Social activist Sandeep Kumar Chand has tweeted on the same to CM Naveen Patnaik.
Anadan Sankar Sahoo, a political activist, said that a 200-bed COVID hospital is operational in the campus of Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) while and 80-bed isolation ward has been functional in Pandit Raghunath Murmu Government Medical College and Hospital since the last week.
However, no ICU facilities are available in both the hospitals for the infected patients, he added.
“Critically ill COVID patients are referred to hospitals in Bhubaneswar, whereupon the patients often die on the way,” he added.
The setting up of an ICU facility will save the lives of many critical COVID patients, Sahoo said.
When contacted, PRM MCH Superintendent Baikuntha Nath Mohapatra informed that the PRM MCH has just recently set up the 80-bed isolation ward, and no information has been given as to the setting up of ICU ward.
According to official sources, as many as 141 fresh Covid positive cases have been reported in the last 24 hours in the district.
