Keonjhar, March 8 (LocalWire): Sasmita Munda, a tribal girl, posted as homeguard in the police department since 2008 is a powerhouse of talent. She is a sportsperson and has also acted in serials.
Sasmita, represents the Bihar women’s cricket team in the national level since 2017 after failing to qualify for Odisha. She was part of the squad that helped Bihar become champions both in 2017 and 2018.
Besides cricket, she also plays football and is the captain of both the district cricket and football teams.
Sasmita has also acted in several crime-based serials in different channels in the role of a police officer. She is now working in an Odia movie. She says she is working in serials and movies not for the money but because she wants people to recognize her and praise her work.
The 27-year-old Sasmita belongs to a poor tribal family from Mayurbhanj district and came to Keonjhar after the death of her parents. She struggled for many years and stayed with a relative in Keonjhar, where she completed her studies before joining as home guard.
Girish Chandra Hota, her cricket coach said, ‘She is the captain of the district women cricket team and an inspiration for the girls here.’
Pradip Mohanty, a wellwisher said ‘despite being poor, Sasmita excelled in games. She should get a chance to play for her home state. She is multitalented and the government should support her.’
