Bhubaneswar, September 9 (LocalWire): Unable to cope with grinding poverty, a 32-year-old tribal woman allegedly killed her two minor sons and later committed suicide in Sighajharan village under Sadar police station jurisdiction on the outskirts of Bhawanipatna Township in Kalahandi district.
The mutilated body of the woman identified as BImala Majhi was found on Bhawanipatna-Junagarh rail tracks, about 8 Km from Bhawanipatna town.
The bodies of her two minor sons, Dushmanta and Rabindra were found lying in a pool of blood with their throats slit at their kutcha house.
Residents of Singjharan village, where the family lived, are still in a state of shock.
“The family was living under constant financial duress. Bimala was finding it increasingly difficult to maintain the family,” a local living in the neighbourhood said.
Bimala’s husband had deserted her last year and she was supporting her family as a daily wage worker.
“From preliminary investigation, it seems like a case of murder-suicide. Poverty might have been the reason that led the woman to take to the extreme step.
However, police are further investigating to ascertain any other ground of the incident,” Sadar police station inspector Pradip Kumar Juria stated.
The police have registered a case of unnatural death in this connection and seized the bodies that have sent them to the district government hospital for autopsy.
