Jajpur, Jan 2 (LocalWire) Thousands of tribal people on Thursday carried out a rally at the industrial hub of Kalinga Nagar in Jajpur district, to mark the 14 years of police firing in the area that had claimed 14 lives.
Shouting anti-government slogans, around five thousand people including several anti-displacement leaders marched from the ‘Martyrs Tower’ in Champakoila village to the Veerbhumi in Ambagadia, where the firing victims had been cremated.
Addressing the rally, Rabindra Jaraka the secretary of Bistapan Birodhi Mancha alleged that even after more than a decade of the incident the government has failed to explain the reason behind the firing.
Around 5000 tribals had been displaced for industrialization still to get jobs, he said.
Prasant Paikray the spokesperson of Posco Pratirodha Sangram Samiti (PPSS) accused the government of signing agreements with the big companies and gifting away the natural resources a merge amount of royalty.
More security forces have been deployed at Kalinga Nagar and its nearby areas for the rally, IIC of Kalinganagar police station Rajendra Narayan Patnaik said.
