Berhampur, Nov 21 (LocalWire) Demanding fulfillment of their long-standing demands, the Kui Samaj Samanya Samiti (KSSS), a tribal organization in Kandhamal district, organized a rally at Phulbani, the district headquarters town in Kandhamal.
The demands included establishment of a medical college in Kandhamal, restoring lands belonging to tribal people in the district, action against the non tribal people who allegedly take advantage from the government by producing fake tribal caste certificate, implementation of Forest Rights Act (FRA), reservation of 50 percent seats for the students of the district in the B .Ed college, Phulbani.
On the occasion of the foundation day of the outfit, the tribal outfit also demanded establishment of Agriculture College, medical college, engineering school, computer training institute and a tribal museum in the district.
Other demands included effective implementation of PESA Act, documentation of tribal arts and formation of research centre to study and preserve folk arts.
A memorandum containing their 34-point charter demands was submitted to Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik through the district administration.
“We have pressed for these demands since 2008. Unfortunately, majority of the demands are yet to be fulfilled,” said Lambodar Kanhar, general secretary of the organisation at the rally.
The tribal leaders threatened to go on agitation, if the government further delayed fulfillment of the demands.
Hundreds of tribal people from across the district attended the rally amid tight security.
