Rourkela, August 25 (LocalWire) A tusker on rampage has let loose a reign of terror in Sudargarh district killing an elderly person, injuring two others besides damaging houses, officials said on Sunday.
While an elderly man was trampled to death in Hutupani village when the victim had gone into forest fuelwood, two others faced the male elephant’s wrath and were injured.
At least three houses beside the compound of a school were damaged by the rogue tusker, forest officials said.
The tusker has been tracked and it has been chased back to forest areas.
As there is possibility of the animal reappearing after sunset, a skilled service group of 50 elephant trackers are on the job to ensure the safety of life and property of people in elephant depredation-affected Hutupani, Peruabhadi, Himarapur villages.
The tusker sneaked into the villages and mostly damaged the thatched houses where grains were stored.
Besides the villages have rich reserve of orchards.
These factors might have attracted the elephant to stray into human habitation areas, officials concluded.
