Berhampur, September 14: Police have arrested a 27-year old man who was wanted in at least seven cases, including an attempt to murder.
The accused, Sushant Behera alias Koko of Rajib Nagar in Goshani Nuagon was arrested by the police after an exchange of fires at the Jayashree Chemical Road under Ganjam police station limits on the wee hours of Saturday.
According to police sources, Behera was traveling on a motorcycle along with one of his accomplices when the police spotted him. On seeing the police vehicle, they fired and tried to escape.
“He received a gun-shot injury on his left knee in the retaliatory fire by the police,” sources said.
“He was first admitted at the sub-divisional hospital in Chhatrapur before being shifting to MKCG Medical College and Hospital here.
His condition is stated to be stable,” Chhatrapur sub-divisional police officer Utkal Keshari Das said, adding that two constables also sustained injuries during the exchange of fire.
His accomplices, however, managed to escape from the spot and the police is tried to trace him, he said
The police have seized a revolver, two live cartridges, two mobile phones and a motorcycle from his possession .
According to the police, at least seven cases were registered against him at different police stations in Berhampur and Ganjam police districts. The police were also searching for him in case of attempt to murder case near Ganjam recently.
