Jagatsinghpur, Dec 15 (LocalWire) Kujang forest officials on Saturday said they have arrested two poachers for hunting six birds from Kansaridia jungle under Erasama police limit.
Officials said they are suspecting the arrested duo might be part of a bird poaching racket active in different forests of Erasama, Kujang and Balikuda.
Acting on a tip off, a forest department team, led by forest ranger Kujang Pratap Mohanty, raided on the houses of Sanat Dalai and Rabindra Mandal at Gobindpur under Erasama police limit and seized six different types of birds, including common coots, from their possession.
Forest officials said: “We have seized carcasses of six rare birds from them. We have collected samples for the investigation and rest of the remains were buried.”
Forest officials booked the duo under Wildlife Protection Act (1972). Their bail plea has been rejected by a Kujang court. They have been forwarded to the Kujang sub-jail on Saturday.
