Bhubaneswar, December 14 (LocalWire): Two Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MPs have been appointed as the members of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on Personal Data Protection Bill, 2019.
“Lok Sabha MP Bhartruhari Mahtab and Rajya Sabha MP @amar4Odisha have been appointed to the Joint Committee for Personal Data Protection Bill 2019, a legislation aimed at bringing an enhanced level of data privacy and security in the country,” the BJD said in a tweet on Saturday.
“Increased technology use, particularly online and cloud services & push for a digital economy has raised serious concerns about the privacy of personal data,” chief minister Navin Patnaik said in his tweet.
The Union IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad had moved a motion in the Rajya Sabha to refer the Personal Data Protection Bill, 2019 to the JPC, after the Lok Sabha voted in favour of it.
Meenakshi Lekhi from BJP has been appointed as chairperson of the Joint Committee.
The proposed committee has 20 members from Lok Sabha and 10 members from Rajya Sabha.
