Bhubaneswar, April 4 (LocalWire): Tirtol MLA Bibhu Prasad Tarai has resigned from the Congress expressing displeasure over ticket distribution, the second leader to quit party in less than 24 hours.
The development came hours after Yudhistir Samantaray, the Congress candidate from Pipili, returned his ticket, alleging that the state Congress president Niranjan Patnaik has been conspiring for his defeat.
Samantaray was upset over his selection for the Pipili assembly seat, as he was keen to contest the Lok Sabha polls from Jagatsinghpur, a party source said.
Tarai was also unhappy over ticket distribution and alleged that a murder accused has been given ticket from Tirtol this time.
He sent his resignation letter to state Congress chief on Wednesday evening.
Tarai had won the Jagatsinghpur Lok Sabha seat on a CPI ticket in 2009.
He had joined the Congress just before the 2014 general elections.
Tarai is likely to join BJP and contest from Jagatsinghpur as a Lok Sabha candidate.
