Berhampur, Dec 25 (LocalWire) Two criminals were arrested by police following exchange of fire between them in separate places in Ganjam district on Tuesday.
Babu Nayak (25), who was allegedly involved in at least 40 cases, including bank dacoity, was arrested with his associate Tofana after an exchange of fire near Kadua under Jagannath Prasad police station limits on Tuesday afternoon.
Babu had escaped from MKCG Medical College and Hospital here on November 25, while undergoing treatment in surgery ward after sustaining bomb injuries.
Earlier on September 11, he escaped from Bhanjanagara sub-jail. He sustained serious injuries while hurling bombs at Bhanjanagara on October 14, police said.
“He was trying to escape. Two police officers were injured along with him,” said Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Bhanjanagara Utkala Keshari Das.
Two country-made 7-mm pistols, three live ammunition and a motorcycle were seized from his possession.
“One of his associates is also arrested. But details on his criminal record are yet to be ascertained,” said the SDPO.
In a separate incident, a 23-year old anti-social, allegedly involved in at least ten cases in different districts, including Ganjam, was arrested by the police following an exchange of fire at Gudidhepa under Khallikote police station limits on the wee hours.
Sustaining bullet injuries in right leg, accused Ananta Kumar of Ranapur in Nayagarh district, was admitted at MKCG Medical College and Hospital here.
His condition is stated to be stable, medical sources said.
Police seized a motorbike, a country-made pistol, and three rounds of live ammunition from him, said Chhatrapur SDPO Ramesh Chandra Sethi.
One of his accomplices, however, managed to escape from the spot, he said.
