Berhampur, April 10 (LocalWire): A local court here on Wednesday sentenced two convicts to life imprisonment for hacking a man to death seven years ago.
Additional district judge SK Sahu convicted Iswara Reddy of Karapalli and Sudam Moharan of Ankuli and also imposed a fine Rs 15,000 on each of them.
The court, however, acquitted Babu Achary of Polasara due to lack of evidence.
Bhagirathi Reddy was hacked to death by the two convicts in 2012. A missing report was lodged by Reddy’s son at Gopalpur police station and police recovered the headless body of Reddy from the bushes at Karapalli three days after the murder.
After interrogating several people and a manhunt, police arrested the accused and recovered the head from the roof top of a house at Karapalli.
Police also recovered the weapons used to hack Reddy from Puri, where they had been hidden.
The court sentenced the duo after recording the statements of 36 witnesses, while acquitted Achary due to lack of evidence against him, sources said.
