Balasore, September 19 (LocalWire): Forest officials of Chandipur range within Balasore forest division have arrested two persons and seized a truck laden with kendu leaves which was being illegally transported on Thursday night.
The arrested persons were identified as Akshay Swain, 47, resident of Sambalpur town of Odisha and Muna Prasad, 28, of Uttar Pradesh.
Ranger Sukumar Das told media persons that he along with some staff was patrolling the NH-16 at Phuladi chowk near Balasore town, and the team detained the vehicle there.
Upon being interrogated, the driver did not have any satisfactory answer, for which the staff checked the vehicle and found a huge quantity of kendu leaf packets.
The duo did not have the required documents for the transportation of kendu leaves.
The officials arrested the duo and then sent them to the Balasore district headquarters hospital for their COVID-19 test.
The vehicle, along with at least 35 quintals of kendu leaves worth Rs. 10-12 lakhs was seized by the officials.
