Berhampur, Dec 4 (LocalWire) Process has started on Tuesday to close down two illegally run child care homes in Gajapati district.
The home at B. Sitapur in Goshani block is run by NGO Good News India.
The other one is located at Chandragiri and is run by another NGO with funding of Good News India, sources said.
The homes will be shut down under the Juvenile Justice Act as they are operating illegally without registration, sources said.
District collector Anupam Saha has directed additional district magistrate and district child protection officer (DCPO) to shift the children of these two homes to nearby hostels run by the government’s welfare department and other institutions.
He was directed to close down the centres after review of joint inspection report submitted by the DCPO, Child Welfare Committee and Childline.
They had jointly inspected the homes on Sunday following the direction of the Odisha government.

As many as 159 children (69 boys and 90 girls) were at the home at B. Sitapur while 19 children, including 75 girls and 34 boys, were lodged at the home of Chandragiri.
‘We have already started shifting the children of both the homes. They will be housed at hostels run by the welfare department and Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya,” said DCPO Arun Kumar Tripathy.
“While shifting the children, we are keeping in mind that their studies are not hampered,” he said.
