Jajpur, December 14 (LocalWire): The police on Saturday arrested a man and his sister-in-law on charges of killing a married woman at village Ratalanga within Binjharapur police station of Jajpur district.
The accused, Laxmidhar Samal is the husband of the deceased and he along with Tapaswini Samal, wife of his elder brother allegedly killed Kabita Samal (26) at their house on Wednesday night and dumped the body in the village pond.
The couple was married for three years and Kabita was allegedly being tortured by her husband and Tapaswini on matters related to dowry.
The police swung to action after the victim’s father Chaitnya filed an FIR at the police station on Thursday alleging that his daughter was missing for three days and he suspected that she was killed by her husband and other family members.
On Friday, some villagers found the floating body in the village pond and informed the police.
“We have sent the body to the government hospital at Jajpur for autopsy. After investigation, we arrested both the accused persons under section 302 (murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence), 498-A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), and 34 (common intention) of IPC and Section 4 of Dowry Prevention Act. We are further investigating the case,” Binjharapur police station inspector-in-charge Siba Charan Behera said.
Both the accused were produced in the court at Jajpur, where the court rejected their bail applications and remanded them to judicial custody, the police officer stated.
