Kendrapara, May 2 (LocalWire): Two plumbers from Kendrapara district, undergoing treatment for suspected COVID-19 in Dubai have recently been declared dead.
Niranjan Mallick, 42, of village Malipur in Pattamundai block was working as a plumber in Sobhasapphire company in Dubai for the past three years. He died on 30th April while undergoing treatment in the hospital.
Another victim, Babaji Sethi, 43, of Pattamundai town was also working as a plumber in Dubai for the last two years.
He died on 29th April while undergoing treatment in the hospital in Dubai.
“The district administration has sought the help of the Labour Commissioner of the state to bring back the bodies.
There was no official confirmation that the death was due to coronavirus to date,” said Samarth Verma the district collector of Kendrapara.
The coronavirus crisis has brought fears of social and economic insecurity to many families across the Pattamundai, Mahakalapada, and Rajnagar blocks of the district, which are known as “Plumbers Capital”.
Ramachandra Nayak, the District Labour Officer (DLO) of Kendrapara, said “Many plumbers from Kendrapara work in many countries.
Sushant Singh, the Minister for Labour & Employees’ State Insurance, Rural Development inaugurated Migration Support and Resource Center (MSRC) at Kendrapara town last year to provide support to the plumbers and other migrant workers of the district.
