Berhampur, June 15 (LocalWire): The two month fishing ban came to end on Saturday and the marine fishermen will soon resume fishing in the sea.
The ban along the 480-km coast including Ganjam district was enforced from 15 April to 14 June to help fish breeding and conservation of marine wealth.
Only the traditional boats went to sea for fishing during the ban period, additional fishery director (marine) Shyam Sundar Panda said.
‘But very few motorized boats ventured to the sea today due to bad weather and Shankranti,’ said W.Simadri, a fisherman.
‘During the annual fishing ban period, most of the motorised boats had undergone maintenance works.
Physical inspection of the vessels was carried out and the fishermen would go out fishing after offering prayers for good profits,’ A.Kaleya of Odisha traditional fish workers’ union (OTFWU).
