To recognize the contribution of teachers in the field of education, every year, CBSE confers the national CBSE Teachers Award principals/teachers of the schools affiliated with the CBSE on the occasion of the Teachers’ Day.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic this year, no function was organized to present the awards to the teachers.
A Social Science teacher at DAV Public School, here, Panigrahi, who ranked 12 in the merit list of the award winners, said that besides over all performances, the Board was also taking consideration of innovative teaching methods and results of the school in the subject.
“After much experimentation, I have developed the Base Method-much focusing on the slow learners to create interest among the students on Social Science,” said Panigrahi.
“Using the method, I develop five to six brilliant students who understand the subject as the leaders.
Then I make small groups with five to six other students and each group is led by the group leader,” she said.
The group leader teaches the members of his/her group in the method of discussion among themselves, she added.
“We have seen this method of teaching was very much working and the students have performed well in the board examination,” Panigrahi, who has been teaching for the last 27-years said.
Besides the learning part, this method of teaching also helped the students to develop the leadership quality among them, she added.
