Jharsuguda, March 1 (Localwire): Two police men were killed and 29 other personnel were injured early on Friday when their vehicle collided head-on with a truck in Belpahar area of Jharsuguda district.
The deceased were identified as Prashant Behera and Shankar Prasad Pant.
The accident took place on the national highway 49 near a petrol pump around 6.30 am when the personnel were en-route to Banharpalli for the chief minister’s security at a program today.
The vehicle was carrying 40 trainee jawans of the Odisha Special Armed Police (OSAP).
While 15 injured jawans were admitted to the Central Hospital at Brajarajnagar, 14 other wounded personnel were rushed to a private hospital at Belpahar.
Seven critically injured were later shifted to the VSS Institute of Medical Sciences and Research in Burla.
After the accident, the police rushed to the spot and sent the injured to the hospital.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has expressed grief over the death of two jawans and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved families. He also ordered free treatment of the injured jawans.
