Berhampur, Feb 5 (LocalWire) Police on Tuesday re-arrested two people, inluding managing director and director of a chit fund company, in Kanishi near Berhampur for alleging duping investors of over Rs 60 crore.
Braja Mohan Patnaik (44) and his wife Tridhara Mohanty (40) of Datum Marketing Limited were nabbed from court premises here.
The couple was arrested after a fresh case was lodged by Sarada Mohapatra of Hillpatna, said Golanthara police station inspector-in-charge Alok Jena.
The couple was forwarded to the Odisha Protection of Interest of Depositors (OPID) Court here.
The couple was arrested on Nov 6 by the Golanthara police after two cases were registered against them.
Both were however released in bail on Jan 21 and attended the court hearing on Feb 4.
Several depositors, who were allegedly victimized by their chit fund company,reportedly tried to manhandle them, till police rescued them from the court premises, said Jena.
Police had earlier frozen four bank accounts worth around Rs 40 lakh, sealed its office at Kanishi and seized several documents, including computer sets and hard-discs.
Besides they had also arrested two of the employees, namely, Bijaya Mohapatra and Tripati BalaJI Patra, in one of the cases against the company, police said.
The company was allegedly collected multi-crore of public money under different investment schemes with a condition to multiply the invested amounts in a short-span of time. But the company did not refund the amount even after maturity.
Though the exact amount duped by the company from the investors was not assessed, but preliminary investigation has revealed that it had collected around Rs 60 crore for different schemes from over 1550 investors, police said.
