Berhampur, Nov 25 (LocalWire): Wildlife personnel on Monday arrested two fishermen from Nalabana bird sanctuary area inside Chilka Lake and seized a country-made boat and fishing nets from the duo, said divisional forest officer (DFO) Chilka wildlife division, Alok Ranjan Hota.
Entry to the Nalabana bird sanctuary area is restricted to outsiders but despite that the accused entered the sanctuary area for fishing. Wildlife officials suspect the duo might have poached migratory birds too.
DFO said wildlife personnel found the boat inside Nalabana during patrolling early in the morning. He, however, said the accused did not have any birds on them.
‘We have intensified patrolling in the lake as poachers are active in the lagoon,’ said the DFO. At least 19 anti-poaching camps have been set up in the lake and two mobile camps launched in the area to keep vigil, he added.
