Berhampur, Sept 24 (LocalWire): Police arrested a nationalized bank’s Phulbani branch manager and her husband for cheating customers.
Sagarika Nayak, United Bank of India’s Phulbani branch manager and her husband Sujit Sarangi, a LIC agent have been forwarded to court on Monday evening, police said.
Police said Nayak had allegedly taken money from customers for sanctioning loans for different subsidy schemes of the government.
She was allegedly withdrawing money using the customers’ ATM cards if they did not pay her an advance.
‘We have received at least 15 complaints from customers so far,’ said inspector in charge, Phulbani town police station, Naresh Kumar Sahu. A case under Section 420 (cheating) and 34 (act done by several persons) of IPC was registered against the couple on Saturday, police said.
The exact amount she had taken from customers is yet to be ascertained. We are still investigating into the matter,’ he said.
Police said they were also investigating who else assisted the branch manager in collecting money from the customers.
