Bhubaneswar, Aug 6 (LocalWire): The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is now all set to accord two Odisha villages as ‘Tsunami ready tomorrow in a virtual global event.
The two villages identified for the global certification included- Venkatraipur (Boxipalli) village of Rangeilunda block of Ganjam district and Noliasahi village of Ersama block of Jagatsinghpur district. The two villages have been acknowledged by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO for greater preparedness to face the tsunami disaster.
According to the state government officials, Odisha would be the first state in the country to get two coastal villages Tsunami ready.
The Certificate of Recognition will be given to the communities of the two villages.
Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradeeep Jena will receive the certificate from UNESCO on their behalf.
The virtual event will be organized by the Intergovernmental Coordination Group for the Indian Ocean Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System (ICG/IOTWMS) Secretariat in Perth, Australia and Indian Ocean Tsunami Information Centre (IOTIC) in Jakarta, Indonesia.
