Bhubaneswar, July 5 (LocalWire): The United Nations resident coordinator of India, Renata Lok-Dessallien, lauded the efforts of the government for its preparedness and immediate response following cyclone Fani and expressed her wish to meet the Special Relief Commisioner in person.
Renata thanked the Commissioner for his letter proposing to set up an international centre for disaster mitigation and recovery in the state.
‘The government of Odisha has a commendable and laudable record of preparedness and response in dealing with disaster that other states and indeed many countries in the world can learn from,’ she added.
She further wrote that the UN will be pleased to help the state government in setting-up specialised centres on disaster management.
She also nominated some of her colleagues who will be in touch with the state government and discuss the concept further.
