Bhubaneswar, December 31 (LocalWire) Suspended IAS officer Bijay Ketan Upadhyaya, on Tuesday accused some officials of hatching conspiracy against him to implicate him falsely, a day after his arrest in a bribery case.
“I have not taken any bribe. I have been falsely implicated by some of my staff” he told newsmen while being produced before the Special judge vigilance court here today.
“I fell prey to a conspiracy hatched by some senior officials”, he added.
Vigilance has accused the 2009-batch Odisha cadres officer of adopting inventive tactics by engaging a private bank executive to receive the bribe.
Upadhyaya, posted as the director horticulture before his arrest, had allegedly demanded Rs one lakh bribe from SRM Plastochem Private Limited, an empanelled supplier of sprinklers, for clearing of a bill of Rs 50 lakh.
Santosh Kumar Pattanayak, Relationship Manager, YES bank Bapuji Nagar, allegedly acted as the middleman, according to a statement issued by the vigilance directorate.
Both Upadhyaya and Pattnayak were arrested and produced before the court.
