Jagatsinghpur, June 21 (LocalWire): At least five people were injured when two groups of villagers clashed in Jagatsinghpur district over the use of local cremation ground, police said on Sunday.
The trouble started after a group of villagers opposed the cremation of a man in the creamation ground the residents say used for cremation of local upper caste at Bhatapada village.
Nuagaon Police have registered a case against five persons and launced a manhunt to nab them.
The dispute arose due to a clash between the said Dalit family and a group of people from the upper castes who allegedly fumed after the dalit family cremated their family member on the common rest shed which was apparently used for cremation of higher caste people, it was alleged.
It has been alleged that the irate upper caste people used filthy language against the Dalits and attacked them with iron roads and sticks before fleeing the crematorium grounds.
It has been alleged that they also assaulted two other women of this Dalit community.
Hearing their screams, other villagers rushed to the spot at which upper caste people managed to flee from this village.
Five injured have been hospitalized in Naugoan hospital for treatment.
