Puri, March 22 (LocalWire): Fire broke out in three compartments of the stationary Puri-Hatia Tapaswini Express this afternoon at Puri railway station. Railway officials said no one was injured in the incident.
Eyewitnesses said fire first broke out in the S-4 coach at around 12.55 pm and later spread to S-3 and S-5 coaches.
The coaches were being cleaned at the time. Railway officials said three fire tenders have been pressed into action to douse the flames.
‘There were no passengers in the train. We have started an investigation to ascertain the cause of the mishap.
While the S-4 compartment was the worst affected, two other coaches were partially damaged.
Rest of the coaches including the AC coaches were cut off from the rake to minimize the damage,’ said a railway official.
He said senior officials from Bhubaneswar and Khurda Road are on their way to Puri.
Earlier, fire had also broken out in three trains stationed at Puri railway station in 2015.
The affected trains were New Delhi-Puri Nandankanan Express, Tirupati-Puri Express and Puri-Howrah Express.
However, on one was injured in the incident as the affected trains were vacant during the mishap.
Police had arrested Ramachandran Subash, a native and psychological disorder patient from Tamil Nadu in connection with the incident.
The investigation was later handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) who ruled out any terror angle behind the mishap.
