Berhampur, Oct 2 (LocalWire): COVID-19 awareness, Swachhata rallies, tree plantation and beach cleaning drives by different organizations marked the celebration of Gandhi Jayanti here on Friday.
The Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) had organized a meeting to conclude the COVID-19 awareness week celebration and distributed prizes to the students who were adjudged the best in different online competitions.
MP (Berhampur) Chandra Sekhar Sahu, MLAs Bikram Panda (Berhampur) and Pradeep Panigrahy (Gopalpur) and former MLA (Berhampur) R. Ch. Chyaupatnaik attended the meeting. Earlier, they paid homage to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Nagara.
BJD’s Ganjam district unit planted trees in different places on the occasion and launched a month-long COVID-19 awareness campaign.
Ruling party supporters at Lochapada, at the outskirts of Berhampur, conducted a blood donation camp. MLA (Gopalpur) attended the camp.
Similarly, BJP supporters in the district cleaned the beach at Gopalpur-on-Sea on the occasion.
“We cleaned the beach as the party celebrated the occasion with Swachhata Hi Seva campaign,” said party’s former district president Kanhu Charan Pati.
Meanwhile, INS Chilka concluded its fortnight campaign of “Swachhta Hi Seva” from 15 Sep – 2 Oct 2020 in two Phases adhering to strict Covid-19 protocols.
In the first phase of campaign, they focused on Coastal Clean-Up along the adjoining WaterFront Areas.
Sanitary Rounds were also undertaken to promote “Swachhta” and good hygiene practices.
The second Phase of the campaign primarily focused on clearing of “Vegetation Overgrowth”, in and around the Naval Base areas through Jagrukta Abhiyan and Mass Shramdaan.
Preservation of the environment was ensured by undertaking the plantation of about five hundred saplings of locally adaptive tree varieties, sources said.
Motivational and Educational Lectures were also conducted for the Ship’s Company as well as the members of ‘Chilika Parivar’ emphasizing on “segregation and disposal” of “dry and wet” waste.
NWWA, Chilika ladies actively participated in this campaign by organizing an online drawing and poster competition for children of INS Chilka, sources said.
