Berhampur, May 5 (LocalWire): Veteran CPI leader and former Lok Sabha member from Bhanjanagara constituency (now Aska), Duti Krushna Panda, passed away in a private hospital in Bhubaneswar today.
He was 97. He is survived by three sons and three daughters.
Panda was elected to Parliament from Bhanjanagara in 1971.
He was also elected to the state Assembly from Aska in 1990.
He was actively associated with several trade unions and was the founder president of Odisha Anganwardi Workers’ Association.
He was the state secretary and president of CPI and AITUC, respectively.
He was also the president of Ganjam district sugar growers’ association.
He was the author of several books.
His body was kept in the CPI office in Bhubaneswar where several leaders paid tribute to him.
His body was later brought to his residence at Aska for cremation which was attended by several people, irrespective of their party affiliation.
