Bhubaneswar, June 6 (LocalWire): A first-time BJD legislator from Patnagarh constituency in Balangir district was in the news today for wrong reasons as he coerced a government official to do sit-ups in full public glare on Wednesday.
In a video clip that went viral on social media, Saroj Kumar Meher is seen forcing a junior engineer of the PWD of Belpada block to do 100 sit-ups for the poor quality of road work in his constituency.
The MLA is also seen threatening the engineer with violence if he refused to follow his orders.
The engineer, identified as Sabar, is seen doing sit-ups and apologising for poor quality work.
The Balangir district administration on Thursday ordered an inquiry into the incident.
The officer could not be reached for comments but Meher has tendered an apology, reported news agencies.
Senior BJP leader and former MLA of Patnagarh, KV Singhdeo and the Congress MLA from Balangir, Narasingha Mishra, condemned the act.
