Malkangiri, July 26 (LocalWire): The anti-corruption vigilance wing of Odisha Police today caught red-handed three police officers of Malkangiri police station for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs one lakh from a complainant. They were later arrested.
The accused cops, inspector Ranjan Sahu and assistant sub inspectors Manas Swain and Sunil Kumar demanded bribe from an employee of a private engineering college to cover complaint lodged against the institute.
Harassed by the extortion tactics, the complainant informed the vigilance sleuths.
Accordingly a trap was laid and the accused police officials were caught while receiving the demanded amount in the office premises of the private engineering college.
The sleuths, who were lying in wait, caught the accused when the complainant handed over the chemical-coated currencies to them at the pre-determined spot.
The policemen have been booked under various provisions of prevention of corruption act, said vigilance division officials.
They are being remanded to judicial custody later today, they added.
