Berhampur, August 22 (LocalWire): Vigilance sleuths today arrested two government officers, including a senior doctor, for allegedly taking bribe from complainants in two different places in Ganjam district.
The accused have been identified as Pitambar Das, superintendent, sub-divisional hospital, Bhanjanagar and Panchanan Pradhan, panchayat executive officer, Khairaput panchayat in Belaguntha block.
Das demanded and accepted Rs 5000 from a woman for operating her husband’s hernia.
While he was taking the money, vigilance officials caught him red-handed, said vigilance SP (Berhampur), Mayadhar Swain.
He said his houses at Bhubaneswar (his wife’s rented accommodation), at Alakapuri in Berhampur and official quarter at Bhanjanagar have been raided.
The details of the findings, however, have not been assessed, he said.
The doctor would be forwarded to court after interrogation, the SP said.
Similarly, the vigilance team also caught Pradhan red-handed while he was accepting Rs 5000 cash from a person for verifying a report for the release of the second installment for a house allotted to his mother under the Prime Minister Awas Yojana.
