Jagatsinghpur, May 14 (LocalWire): People resorted to picketing and road blockades in different areas of Jagatsinghpur district today, paralysing traffic while protesting non-supply of electricity to villages.
Hundreds of irate people blocked the Cuttack-Paradip state highway at Tarapur under Raghunathpur police station today.
Similarly people rallied and raised slogans against the district administration and blocked the road at Chandol on Cuttack-Nuagaon National Highway under Jagatsinghpur police due to non-restoration of electric connection to hundreds of villages.
In another incident, people blocked the road at Singipur village on Balibhanuri Naugaon road.
Only ten percent villages have received power even though 11 days elapsed since the cyclone ripped through the state, they complained.
Hit by manpower shortage, inadequate supply of equipment and heat wave, the concerned authorities are facing an uphill task of restoring power supply to the areas, crippling life.
Dearth of kerosene and defunct solar lights have added to the woes of the villagers as its 11 days since they are living in darkness and are parched of drinking water during heat wave.
Superintendent Engineer, CESU, Paradip Bibhudatta Mohapatra, and other officials rushed to the spot to pacify the irate people. People called off the stir after they were assured of restoration of electric connection soon.
