Kendrapara, Sept 23 (LocalWire): The last rites of a woman and her daughter, who were found dead on Sunday, were conducted on Wednesday after officials assured family members that the killers of duo would be arrested soon.
The family members refused to perform the last rites until the killers were arrested.
Officials were gheraoed by the kin of the deceased as well as villagers when they reached the village Manapada to persuade the villagers to cremate the bodies, four days after the deaths.
“We persuaded the villagers to carry out the cremation of the dead people.
The police have already arrested the main accused in the murder case and all the other accused will soon be arrested,” said Bholanath Sethi, the Tahasildar of Rajnagar.
Pramila Nath, 46, who went missing on September 19 was found dead, her body floating in the Hansua river.
Her daughter, Satyapriya Nath, 21, was found dead in a pond at neighbouring village Gobardhanapur on the same day.
The post-mortem report of Satyapriya revealed that she was 7-months pregnant at the time of her death. The girl was unmarried.
Villagers alleged that Satyapriya was raped (and impregnated) by the son of her maternal uncle. The mother and daughter were killed when Pramila discovered that her daughter was pregnant.
“Police have registered a case citing rape and murder as the main charges against Sanjay Behera, 25, a relative of Satyapriya,” said the IIC of Rajnagar police station, Tapan Nayak.
