Berhampur, August 7 (LocalWire): Gajapati district administration today evacuated around 650 people from four villages, as Vansadhara river was flowing about two meters above it danger level at Kasinagara.
The river was flowing at 56.13 metres, about 1.53 metres above its danger level at Kasinagara and Gunupur, according to flood control officials.
‘We have evacuated people from the low-laying areas as a precautionary measure. They have been housed in nearby schools and flood-shelters,’ said Gajapati Collector Anupam Saha.
People from Old Badigaon, Palsingi, Kidigaon and Kasinagara NAC have been evacuated and schools closed down in view of the flood situation though the river water has not entered into any village yet.
Chief engineer of Rushikulya, Vansadhara, Nagabali river basins, Jyotirmaya Rath, along with other senior officers rushed to the spot to assess the situation.
‘All the 22 gates of Gota barrage have been opened and around 70,000 cusec water is flowing from the barrage,’ the Collector said.
‘Our engineers are camping near Gota and assessing the situation.
They are also constantly in touch with their counterparts in Andhra Pradesh,’ he said.
Since the water level of the river at Gunupur was showing receding trends, water level at Kasinagara was expected to drop soon, Saha said.
