Jagatsinghpur, May 21(LocalWire): Power supply has not been restored to more than 200 villages of Biridi and Raghunathpur blocks even after 18 days of Fani although 40 skilled labourers who had come to restore power were turned back by CESU without assigning them any work.
In Raghunathpur, out of 20,000 consumers, nearly 10,000 consumers of around eighty villages are living in deplorable condition without electricity.
The situation in Balikuda, Raghunathpur and Biridi blocks have worsened due to the heat wave blowing through the state. Nothing has been done to improve the situation since there was a nexus between the contractors and CESU officials, locals alleged.
CESU asked local contractors to restore power supply in different villages of Jagatsinghpur district but desperate villagers engaged to install electric poles, transportation of poles and repairing the LT lines on their own.
Since they had managed to completed many things, contractors submitted false bills and siphoned lakhs of rupees showing the money spent on labourers, they alleged.
Last week, CESU had sent 40 skilled labourers to Raghunathpur block for restoration of power supply as due to want of equipment and manpower, electricity was not being restored.
Locals alleged that CESU officials later turned back these skilled labourers as they were instigated by the local contractors who otherwise would not be able to submit false bills.
Today, hundreds of villagers from Isani Berhampur, Thoriapada, Tatalapada, Bosar, Ainipur, Kalarabank, Aran, Kulashai,Taput, Bhasilpur, Kuamanga and other villagers gheraoed the office of assistant engineer, electrical sub-division protesting non-supply of power and protesting not using the skills of the 40 labourers who were turned back. The Engineer, Biswarnjan Deuri, later assured the villagers of restoration of power supply and they called off their stir.
Similarly, irate villagers of Balia Gopinathpur under Biridi blocked roads for not involving Bangalore-based private company, Enzen Global for restoration work.
Yesterday, locals from Garei village under Naguaon block detained junior engineer Manranjan Behera who was later rescued by local police after assurance to restore power supply within two to three days.
