Jagatsinghpur, Sept 20 (LocalWire): Tension was palpable in Dasipur village under Erasama police station jurisdiction after villagers prevented a murder accused from entering the village and performing the last rites of his father.
Villagers let the body rot for two days and later allowed relatives to cremate it after police intervention.
Since the police also could not stop the angry villagers, the ostracized family is in panick.
Panchayat samity member of Nuadihi panchayat Ranjan Swain from Dasipur village was murdered by his rivals due to rivalry, while returning home on May 2016.
Police arrested 11 people including the main accused Shyamsundar Swain from Dasipur village.
Later, angry villagers ransacked and burnt the houses of the accused forcing the families to leave the village.
In April 2018, the accused got bail from the court but irate villagers didn’t allow them to enter Dasipur.
The accused took shelter in their relatives’ houses, elsewhere. They sought the intervention of Chief Minister, district administration and local police but to no avail.
On Thursday, Shyamsundar Swain’s father died.
Swain sought the intervention of Erasama police to cooperate with him and allow him to cremate his father.
IIC of Erasama police station, Prasant Kumar Majhi, said, ‘irate villagers restricted the Swain’s family members from performing the last ritual. Police have decided to conduct a meeting after five days to bring normalcy in the village. We are also keeping a strict vigil on the situation.’
