Berhampur, August 7 (LocalWire): Road communication between Baliguda and Kalahandi and Phulbani and Berhampur were disrupted after a culvert collapsed near Sirla and some diversion approach roads were washed away in Tumudibandh and Tikabali blocks in Kandhamal district.
The diversion approach roads on National Highway 59 were washed away at Tikabali, Mandalapur, Udanni and Bataguda due to heavy rainfall for the last three days.
‘We are keeping a watch on the situation and efforts are on to restore communication,’ said Kandhamal Collector, Burndha D.
Officials said people in several villages of Tumudibandh block are cut off due to the flooding of roads.
Since the area is hilly, rainwater flows into the block and causes flood.
The block development officer of Tumudibandh, Jayadev Das, visited some of the affected villages to assess the situation. ‘We have shifted people living in kutcha houses to nearby pucca houses in the villages,’ he said.
Executive engineer, of rural development, Baliguda division, H Subramaniam, said, ‘Communication will be restored only after water recedes.’
