Berhampur, Jan 12 (LocalWire): Hundreds of visitors flocked to Daringbadi, the hill town in Kandhamal district that is reeling under severe cold.
The night temperature on Saturday night in Daringbadi recorded 7.2 degree Celsius and locals said roof-tops, the higher branches of trees had frost early in the morning.
In several places in Daringibadi and its nearby areas including Simanbadi and Greenbadi, we have seen frost early in the morning, said AK Sahu, a resident of Daringibadi.
Visitors flocked to Daringibadi to witness the thick fog and experience the bone-chilling cold in the hill town.
Several foreigners also visited Phulbani, where the night temperature was also hovering between five to eight degrees Celsius since the last few days. The minimum temperature in Phulbani recorded 5 degrees Celsius on Saturday.
People were wary of visiting Daringbadi a few years ago due to the Maoist activists and communal tension witnessed in the area.
But now there has been a vast improvement in the law and order situation, claimed an officer.
Daringbadi, situated at an altitude of about 280 metres above sea level, is well-known as the coldest place in the state.
Vast patches of coffee plantations, surrounding hills, pine forests, lovers’ point, children’s park and waterfalls attract tourists to Daringbadi.
Police also made elaborate security measures for the safety of the visitors to the hill-town.
